Projects
The following high-impact projects were completed as part of my MLIS degree at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio.
I specialized in Information Access and Discovery and while I focused my efforts on academic and public libraries, I pursued a challenging and leading-edge slate of courses, including work in Digital Humanities, Digital Collections, and User Experience Design, all of which have given me expertise
that applies to a wide range of professional roles and organizations.
Each of these projects aligns with one or more of the Kent State University MLIS Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs), which are:
- PLO1: Apply the field's foundational theories, principles, values, ethics, and skills to everyday practice.
- PLO2: Critique and synthesize research and identify appropriate research methodologies to solve problems in the field.
- PLO3: Analyze and engage in the changing cultural, educational, and social roles and responsibilities of librarians/information professionals and the environments they work in within the global society.
- PLO4: Evaluate systems and technologies relevant to a particular information context.
- PLO5: Identify needs and connect individuals and communities with information that engages and empowers them.
Each of these projects also aligns with one or more of the professional standards that guide librarians in both public and academic settings and when teaching, which are:
- American Library Association (ALA) Code of Ethics
- Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Standards for Libraries in Higher Education
- Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL) Framework for Information Literacy in Higher Education
- Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) Guidelines for Behavioral Performance of Reference and Information Service Providers
